An argument for Good Art

Before Good Art:

A line drawing of a room with a red stamp saying "Good Art Needed" on top

After Good Art:

When we started working on a plan for the TRYP Hotel, a statement lighting piece was at the top of the list for the entrance to the building.

We knew this had to be an artist-designed piece and not something ordered from a catalog. The addition of Jakob Marsico’s cascading lamp shows how art can really transform an area and make it feel more lively.

As you enter the building from the 40th St. side, you walk underneath the chandelier and descend the stairs. The lights are subtly turning on and off in a constantly changing pattern. Marsico has actually written a program that ties the lighting to a video of the ocean. So changes in the lights you see are in response to the movement of the waves.
